my notes on 'too big to know'
Listening to David Weinberger's presentation
Traditionally knowledge has been stored in papers & books. This is 's unnatural, it is impossible to scale it. Ask an expert ->STOP!
According to this view, you know something when you have settled concepts, ideas, when you are able to categorize a notion and locate it within a framework of other related notions.
Now we have got a new medium: Internet, which is connective.
Properties of Internet (and consequently of knowledge):
- too much (overload and filters)
- messy (universe unique order <-> messiness is how we scale meaning!)
- unsettled
- unstructured.

what is a network? my notes
A network is composed of:
- entities or nodes
- connections or ties
- signals.
The concept of 'network' may refer to: Mathematics, Electric, electronic, biological, and biosocial.
Network properties:
density, speed, flow, plasticity, degree of connectedness.....
-> Network theory of knowldge (inspired also by neuroscience studies on brain)
-> Network theory of learning

Reading seminal paper by Siemens
Weak ties between disparate ideas and fields can bring to creativity and can create innovations.
Welcome to my blog on TEL!
Even if I have been working as researcher in the field of TEL (Technology Enhanced Learning) since 1998, this is my first attempt to really share with others my ideas, concerns and impressions about past, present and - above all - future of this challanging research sector.
ciao for now!
